Calculating the quantity of Material for Brick Masonry
Brick required (Single bond)
Step 1. fix the facing side (F)
Note 1 : The measurement perpendicular to the facing side should be the same for the total quantity ( does not include the mortar or plastering thickness)
Step 2. Add mortar thickness to the other two lengths, 1cm to 1.5 cm – depending upon the type and size of the Bricks. (10cmX 10cm X 20cm = 0.002 m3)
Step 3. Bicks required for 1 m3 brick masonry.
=1/ 0.002m3 = 500 Bricks (1)
Calculation of Mortar
Step 4. Actual volume of one brick = .09 X 0.09 X 0.2 = 0.00162 m3
Volume of 500 Bricks (1) = 500 X 0.00162 = 0.81 m3
Step 5. Volume of mortar = 1-0.81= 0.19 m3 (2)
Step 6. Sand required for 1 m3 brick masonry = 0.19 m3 X 0.9 = 0.171 m3
Step 7. Decide the cement sand ratio, eg. 1:6 = 1/6 (3)
Step 8. (3), 1/6 X 0.19, (2) = 0.0317m3 = 0.0317 m3 X 1440 kg/m3 = 45.6 kg.
